The crew find themselves on Afognak Island among enourmous Brown Bears. The men cross the Shelikoff Straits and end up on a deserted beach out of fuel.
The expedition enters the Bering Sea. With huge waves, fading light, fog and rain the men and their machines are hoisted onto a crab vessel to spend the night.
The expedition attempts a 100 mile open water crossing. Charles nears hypothermia. Fall approaches and the men fear they may never reach the Bering Strait.
